DESIGN STAR DISH!!!

Hey HGTV fans,
Did you catch Sunday's DESIGN STAR finale???? I was so happy that Antonio won! The cast had a lot of talented designers, but, they really lacked personality and T.V. charisma. Antonio is a carpenter by trade and has no formal design training. (I have long held that design is a field in which you either have talent, or you don't. There are some truly amazing designers who lack formal training.) In my estimation, Antonio's personality is what cinched it for him. As Candice said....he is the "Tony Soprano" of the design world. And that my friends, is a welcome change!!!!! BRAVO to Candice, Vern & Gen for making the RIGHT decision.

Antonio's win gives me hope! I soo long to work for HGTV!!!!! Maybe this will be the year the "HGTV casting gods" shine good design fortune upon me! I hope....I hope....I hope!

"Eyes" on Kat T's

Sleep???? What's that she asks???? As a professed insomniac and as someone way too creatively inspired, sleep is not often on my agenda! In the twilight of this new day, I have come up with a ton of great concepts, templates and ideas for my latest venture, Kat T's!!!!!!!

If I could stop myself from the flow of new ideas, racing through my design driven mind, I hope to put together a look book of various T's. I also need to update my portfolio at some point, but as Scarlett O'Hara so eloquently said....."tomorrow is a new day"! LOL!!!!

Kat T's!!!

As I was walking down the Sunset Strip in L.A., I was looking around at the lights and sights of L.A., my attention was stunted by a billboard. The billboard wasn't unique or even that interesting, but rather, the appeal rested in the fact it was a billboard on Sunset! What a great way to attract more blog followers, I thought to myself. As I was mentally calculating what that would cost and if there was enough available credit on my Visa, my friend Ryan brought me back to reality!

Realizing that I wasn't going to get to far with Visa, or in my trademark heels, I needed a new strategy. At this point in the day, I looked down at the custom handmade t-shirt I made for myself & decided to produce a line of limited edition, custom t-shirts!

In the September issue of REAL SIMPLE magazine, they showed a fantastic way to re-configure your space! It was such a great idea, I had to share it. This cute home office was once an un-used closet! How divine is that! (although, in my house, there is nooo such thing as un-used closet space!) But, for those of you, in need of a work space, that can spare the closet, here is a picture.

Eye on Design...the theme song!

Welcome to EYE on DESIGN

When I was in college, my guidance counselor told me that I was enthusiastic and vastly creative. He further suggested I pursue a career in the arts. At the time, I thought it was the most offensive thing I had ever heard. The running commentary in my head screamed "I am a smart girl....Take me seriously!!!!"

I proceeded to go against the grain and pursue the unfufilling yet serious career. In my spare time, I proceeded to design, decorate and reconfigure my apartments, in ways the landlords would later praise and thank me for. Never once did a career in design, factor into my stream of consciousness.

Flash forward a few years and I was sitting on the kitchen floor, of the latest apartment, recovering the nasty, soiled, should have been replaced decades ago vinyl tile, with wood grain contact paper. I thought I was covering an eyesore! My friends thought I had missed my calling and pleaded with me to reconsider my career options.

This was the first step towards my "AHA" moment. I knew that I could camoflague, I knew that I had a good eye and memory for color, but a career in design????? I was tempted but not sold.

Around this same time, "Trading Spaces" premiered on TLC. I was hooked! I loved seeing how the designers would transform the spaces. Would they take it from drab to fab?? Would it inspire me??? Would it be better for the homeowner....or WORSE!!!!

My appetite for design was now becomming insaitable. It was becomming more serious than my long-standing diet coke addiction! LOL!!! Then...I discovered HGTV!!!!

Ahhh...how do you describe the perfect fit...the crown jewel, the gem that outshines all of the other pretty stones....I had always "Designed on a Dime", and traded spaces, but now...Design had become divine.......................
